BIOGRAPHY
Musician, composer, teacher, writer, speaker, jewelrymaker, storyteller. The common thread in Judy’s creative experience is story.
Judy Coder is a professional musician and composer. Her compositional style is eclectic and accessible, a fresh blend of folk, jazz, and classical harmonies. Much of her choral work is commissioned by individuals and performing groups. In addition, she has a large body of work developed for young singers and instrumentalists.
Judy is a dynamic singer, a vocalist of the highest order, bringing songs and stories to life through her rich voice. She can sing comfortably in any style, but is particularly recognized in the field of Western/Americana music. She is classically trained and meticulous, and her performances are unforgettable.
Judy enjoys frequent performance tours
throughout the United States and Europe, adding new songs and stories to her collection as she goes. Her programs reflect her eclectic tastes, and usually include a healthy dose of her award-winning yodeling. These days, Judy is most often found weaving harmonies with the duo, Notable Exceptions. Solo and duo recordings are found on their website.
If there is music to be made, Judy Coder can be found in the middle of it. In recent years, she served as a national officer of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, Festival Coordinator for the Sunflower Music Festival,
and was a founder of the Kansas Youth Chorale. As a performing artist, Coder keeps a full calendar of engagements, in venues that take her from opera to opry. A prolific and creative composer, she was Composer-in-Residence for the Kansas Youth Chorale and First Presbyterian Church (Topeka, KS). She is a frequent clinician, presenting workshops at international conventions for Sigma Alpha Iota and the Interntational Western Music Association. She continues to work closely with students in the public schools and operates a private vocal studio.
